Because he's seen worse. Jerry thinks it immediately, though he'd never want to say as much to Grace, not least when it's so difficult to admit to himself. Even so, it's still true. What played out in Chinatown was nothing compared to a lot of what he saw during the war, and he was in worse danger then, too, at least, the way he sees it. And though getting over all of that hasn't always been the easiest thing, either, that never got to him quite like this. It's just too much to give voice to; he doubts he'd want to be rattled like this no matter what was responsible. Not sure how else to respond, he shrugs, letting out a slow, unsteady breath. "Just shouldn't be."
