It isn't alright, Jerry wants to say, but it wouldn't have anything to do with his not having called her and he knows it. That's a small enough mistake, something he could easily make up for. What started all this, though, isn't alright at all, neither the incident back home nor what he stumbled into at the park, and certainly not how incapable he is of shaking this. When it's only been a few weeks, not even a month yet, it makes sense in that he hasn't had an opportunity to deal with that or any of the rest of it, but with everything that's happened since, it's difficult to keep sight of the fact that it really has been such a short time, and therefore all the more so to cut himself any slack for it, especially now that Grace has found him.
A protest dying in his throat, he nods as he starts towards the couch, reaching into his pocket for his lighter and a fresh cigarette. The first one he smoked didn't do him any real good, but he's a little less unsteady now, at least. It buys him a moment's time before he has to speak, too, which might be more important. What he's supposed to say, he can't tell, but he owes her more than just silence or his trying to shrug it off. He can try, and later, he will, but right now, it would just look idiotic. "No, it's fine," he says finally, not quite as convincing as he'd like it to be. "We don't have to stay in just 'cause I got thrown for a loop."
